Mariah Carey’s name comes up every holiday season. Her popular jingle “All I Want For Christmas” starts trending every December, and it also racks in big bucks.
A music industry insider broke down the figures Mariah’s earning to TMZ. While the singer is only entitled to few cents per stream, the total ends up being around seven figures. The track has already over 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The source revealed that singers usually make between .003 to .004 cents per stream. This goes to show that in Mariah’s case, she rakes in between $3,249,600 to $4,332,800 just on Spotify streams. That figure is astounding especially after the fact her single came out years ago.
The above numbers don’t take into account her earnings from streams on Apple Music. Another source revealed to the outlet, “Mariah can sit on her ass for the rest of her life and ONLY promote AIWFC and still be a millionaire.”
The 1994 holiday song has reached a huge milestone this year. The song broke into the Hot 100’s top 10 for the first time in 2017 and hit #1 for the first time on Dec. 2019., again climbing to that spot in Dec. 2020 and 2021. This makes it the only song in the chart’s history to have led in three different runs on the ranking.
Earlier this year, Mariah made headlines when allegations of a explosive fight between her and her record label head Jay-Z came to light. She soon denied the allegations. At the time she said,
“The only ‘explosive’ situation I’d ever ‘get into’ with Hov is a creative tangent, such as our #1 song ‘Heartbreaker,’” she wrote alongside a clip of the video on Twitter. “To the people who make up these lies I say ‘Poof! — Vamoose, sonofa****’!”
