The global COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way sports are presented on television. Nearly every league in the world either cancelled their season or went on a pause in 2020 as humanity collectively figured out how to handle the virus. Commentators even did remote broadcasts from home when games were able to be played.

Things eventually settled down to the point where fans and media were welcome back at the stadium. Things looked close to normal. Some practices were altered for the safety of athletes and those covering them.

It is not uncommon to see socially distanced interviews on televised sports broadcasts these days. It is a simple precaution that doesn’t have much of an effect on the outcome of the interview. On Sunday, Fox’s Erin Andrews appears to have been simply going through the motions.

Andrews interviewed Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the field after Sunday night’s game against the Cleveland Browns. Eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed that she then gave the QB a huge hug. Twitter had a field day dragging Andrews for the hypocrisy.

“Erin Andrews stood like 10 feet from Aaron Rodgers on camera. Interview ends. Erin Andrews hugs Aaron Rodgers. All on national TV. And we wonder why the country is confused as hell.”

“We just watched Erin Andrews give a socially distanced interview… then after it, hugged Aaron Rodgers after the interview was done.”

“*Holds socially distanced interview*

*Hugs immediately after interview*

Makes sense”

The irony that the incident involved Aaron Rodgers was not lost on fans. Earlier in the season, he intentionally misled fans about his COVID vaccination status. It appears that Erin Andrews cares just as little about containing the virus as the Packers QB.
