Taylor Swift is arguably one of the biggest pop stars of the modern generation. She has millions and millions of fans worldwide who absolutely adore her. Such fame and following has their own downsides as well, especially at times like this amid a pandemic.

T Swift is known for shattering hearts and breaking records, but Billy Joel believes she is much more. In an interview with USA Today to promote his return to his Madison Square Garden engagement, the Piano Man himself made a huge statement about Swift.

Since 2014, MSG has been known for hosting his recurrent events. Joel announced more dates for 2022 earlier this month, including summer shows.

“She’s like that generation’s Beatles.”

If there’s anyone who can make such a grand statement, it just might be the Piano Man. Joel, 72, has seen a lot of trends come and go in his decades of writing songs. But it’s through name-dropping in songs like Olivia Rodrigo’s “deja vu”, and getting popular on TikTok that he’s recently reached out to new generations. His song “Zanzibar” was ranked third on the platform’s list of “best Classic tunes” for 2021.

The “Uptown Girl” singer said he’s familiar with the music of the younger generation, but only because his children catch allusions to him on the radio. With decades in the music industry comes the experience of seeing musicians develop and emerge, particularly singers like Swift.

“There are a lot of younger people now looking backward and they like their parents’ music, which is a strange phenomenon. I’ll be in the car with [my kids] when they make me turn [the radio] on and I might hear a reference to me. Taylor (Swift) is also a very talented girl and she’s productive and keeps coming up with great concepts and songs and she’s huge.”

Swift, who was dubbed one of Forbes’ “most powerful women” at the age of 32, has been the subject of much debate this year. She’s no stranger to internet drama, whether it’s reigniting tensions with ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal or being accused of stealing lyrics to her smash “Shake It Off.” Neither are her fans, who routinely take to task any bad blood online.
