During the Harry Potter 20th anniversary special “Return to Hogwarts,” Daniel Radcliffe and Helena Bonham Carter sat down together to discuss their experience working on the Harry Potter films. Throughout the eight films, Radcliffe played Harry Potter, while Carter appeared later in the saga as Voldemort’s right-hand witch Bellatrix Lestrange.
Radcliffe told Carter in an autograph from the Harry Potter filming days that he wished he was “10 years older” so he could date her. This revelation from Harry Potter himself is quite alarming, especially considering how Bellatrix Lestrange murdered Harry’s godfather Sirius Black.
Radcliffe was head over heels in love with his ‘Harry Potter’ co-star and even wrote her a love letter. During the special, Carter revealed that she had requested Radcliffe for an autograph while they were filming together. She showed Radcliffe a snapshot of it on her phone and asked him to read it aloud.
“Dear HBC, It was a pleasure being your co-star and coaster — wow, what a clever pun I made, honestly I’m still kind of pleased with that — in the sense that I always ended up holding your coffee. I do love you and I just wish I had been born 10 years earlier, I might have been in with a chance. Lots of love and thanks for being cool.”
During the filming of Order of the Phoenix, Radcliffe was around 17 years old, which was his first appearance alongside Carter. She would have been around 40 years old at the time of filming.
Other cast members, including Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), and Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), as well as directors Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates, appear in the 20th anniversary special, which premieres today on HBO Max.
