Arguably the greatest soccer player to ever grace the game, Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or seven times. He is currently signed to PSG as their forward alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. Paris St Germain announced on Sunday that right winger Lionel Messi and three other players have tested positive for COVID-19.
The French side suffers huge loss since Leo is the biggest superstar in their team. Messi, defender Juan Bernat, substitute goalkeeper Sergio Rico, and midfielder Nathan Bitumazala all tested positive, according to the team’s medical statement. The four players were segregated and subjected to necessary health precautions, according to PSG.
“The tests carried out during the winter holidays and before the resumption of training revealed 4 positive cases of Covid-19 among the players and 1 positive case among the staff. The people affected are under the current Covid protocols.”
During his first press conference of the season, PSG manager Pochettino remarked that Messi has been in communication with their medical team on a daily basis. Once Leo receives a negative test, he will travel to France, but there’s no certainty if he’ll play against Lyon.
According to Reuters, France recorded 219,126 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period on Saturday, the country’s fourth consecutive day with over 200,000 cases. France has already surpassed 10 million cases, joining the United States, India, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Russia.
