A new year, a new record, and a new look? The Weeknd hasn’t released a new album in nearly two years, and it appears the wait was even longer for him. On Monday, Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd, released a teaser for his upcoming album, “Dawn FM,” in which he appears to be much older than his years.
The Weeknd has already accomplished enough to be considered one of the all-time greats in such a short amount of time. He’s been spoken about a lot among the biggest names in pop music. Blinding Lights, from his After Hours album, is often regarded as the album’s best song.
Tesfaye is seen with clear visual effects to age his face with wrinkles and grey hair in the one-minute clip. “A new sonic cosmos from The Weeknd’s head,” reads the caption in the album’s video, which will be released on January 7. Quincy Jones, Lil Wayne, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Tyler, the Creator will all appear on the album.
The teaser also mentions Jim Carrey, who is inexplicably included on the record. While it’s unclear how Carrey will be involved, The Weeknd told GQ that Carrey, 59, attended his 30th birthday party and that the two became friends.
“On my 30th birthday, he surprised me. He just pulled up to my crib and took me to breakfast. He lived literally like two buildings down from me. He had a telescope, and I had a telescope. He was like, ‘Where do you live? What floor do you live on?’ I was like, ‘Blah, blah, blah.‘ And we looked out the windows on our telescopes and we could see each other.”
In other scenes in the film, the singer appears to be dressed in a sleek leather suit, but is taken away by mystery shrouded individuals. The record is a follow-up to “After Hours,” which was released in 2020 and featured odd themes such as a bloodied visage that he wore in public numerous times as well as a mug that appeared to have been transformed with plastic surgery, done with prosthetics.
