The Los Angeles Lakers have had a lethargic first quarter of the 2021-2022 season. LeBron James doesn’t think the team has any chemistry. Russell Westbrook is frustrated. There isn’t a lot for Lakers fans to be happy about.
There could be some changes coming very soon. The Lakers need to get younger and more versatile. There are several players on the trading block that could fit the bill.
NBA insider Zack Lowe discussed various possible trade scenarios on his latest Low Post podcast. He said the target for L.A. is Detroit Piston Jerami Grant. The Lakers are already working on putting together a trade package to get the deal done.
“I keep reading and hearing and hearing murmurs about how the Lakers are gonna try to get Jerami Grant with Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn and a 2028 first-round pick, which is the one they can trade.
Now look, people pooh-pooh the value of a Lakers 2028 first-round pick because everyone assumes the Lakers will always be good. The Lakers just came out of a five-year morass of awfulness, 2028 is a long time away from now. LeBron will be 40 or whatever he’ll be, even older than that, 42 or something. AD, who knows?”
Jerami Grant has been recovering from thumb surgery and has only appeared in 24 games this season for Detroit. Those limited minutes have been productive. Jerami is averaging 20.1 PPG to go with 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He has a better player efficiency rating than Russell Westbrook.
The Lakers won’t have to give up star power to get him. Losing a draft pick would sting, but L.A. is in “win now” mode. It’s do or die time at the Crypto.com arena. Time will tell if they pull the trigger.
