Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield are both known for their web-slinging, but who says celebrities don’t like seeing themselves on-screen? There are those that can’t stand it, namely Robert De Niro and Johnny Depp, but there are those that want to see the action unfold onscreen whether they were in the films or not. As it would turn out, Andrew Garfield and Tobey McGuire are the latter and not the former.
Peter Parker has been played by three men on the big screen in recent decades. Perhaps it was Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the aforementioned character that brought the character back to the limelight in grandiose fashion. It was films like those 3 Maguire installments and perhaps the first X-Men film released in 2000, that really relaunched the interest in super hero films overall, but of course that’s debatable.
The film was rebooted not only a second time, but a third time, Tom Holland playing the titular character in these last few installments in the Spider-Man franchise. No Way Home brings the three versions of the same story together like no other and of course, the three actors came together in this final retelling of the story, and Garfield and Maguire wanted to see what all the hubbub was about when it premiered. So much so, that they snuck into a theater to watch it, US Magazine reports.
“I snuck into a theater on opening night and just watched with my baseball cap on and my mask. In fact, I was also with Tobey — me and Tobey snuck into a theater together and no one knew we were there. It was just a really beautiful thing to share together,” Garfield said.
“And to find a brotherhood with Tobey as well, and with Tom [Holland], and the fact that we do share a very unique experience…The fact that I get to be one of those people wearing the suit next to my actual Spider-Man hero, Tobey Maguire, and the brilliant, incredibly talented, heartfelt, funny, good, sweet, perfect Spider-Man of Tom Holland, and I get to be the middle brother, and I get to be in awe of my older brother and in full longing to protect my younger brother.”
Andrew Garfield has been working steadily since departing the Spider-Man portion of his career. It was just last year that he of course starred in The Eyes of Tammy Faye and Tick, Tick…Boom! Maguire who is of course a heralded actor from the early portion of the new millenium starred in many hits and cherished films outside of Spider-Man which include Pleasantville, Wonder Boys, and of course The Cider House Rules.
It is in 2022 that Holland is set to be seen in Uncharted…an adventure film that can be perhaps compared to Indiana Jones alongside yet another cinematic legend, Mark Wahlberg. No Way Home is reportedly the last time he will be wearing the Spider-Man costume, but then again, Garfield and Maguire said the same thing back in the day. Lesson learned: In Hollywood, you never know, dear readers.
