Ben Roethlisberger showed up to the match last day, recognizing that it was likely going to be the last game of his NFL career. Thanks to the Steelers’ win and some lucky breaks around the league, he will certainly have some more playtime.
The Steelers won the game on Chris Boswell’s 36-yard field goal with 1:59 left in overtime. The kick was set up by Roethlisberger’s fourth-down completion to Ray-Ray McCloud four plays earlier. Unless the Chargers-Raiders game ends in a tie, the Steelers are in the playoffs and Roethlisberger will play at least one more game, next week.
Roethlisberger was thrilled by the way the team played. “So many people got involved. So many people helped make this happen. Offense, defense, kicker Chris Boswell, there was never a doubt Bos was going to make it,” Roethlisberger said. “This is a group that we just wanted to try to get in.”
As of now, the Steelers will travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs in the wild card round assuming that the Raiders and Chargers do not tie each other on Sunday night. It only remains to be seen what is in store for Ben in the last few chapters of his NFL career.
