Drake is one of the most celebrated artists in Hip Hop today. Being among the world’s best-selling music artists, Drizzy probably saw this landmark victory coming. While he makes it look easy, climbing to this status is something very few artists do.
Certified Lover Boy is the first 2021 rap album to reach double platinum milestone. Drake’s sixth studio album was subject to intense competition. Last summer, it was released within days of Kanye West’s Donda.
The two highly anticipated albums of the year dominated the charts. However, Drake’s album simply operated at a higher level. Within a month of the release, Certified Lover Boy earned RIAA Platinum status.
For nearly two months after its release, Certified Lover Boy hovered around the No. 1 and No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart after debuting at No. 1. Presently, almost half a year later, the album has doubled that achievement. Chart Data announced that this is the first album in the rap category from 2021 to gain this status.
“@Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ has now sold over 2 million total units in the US. It’s the only 2021 rap album to reach this milestone.”
The only other rap album from 2021 in the top 10 for sales numbers is The Kid LAROI’s project F**k Love, according to Billboard.
We hope 6 God keeps making more history. Drizzy is up for two awards at the 2022 Grammys. Certified Lover Boy is in nominated for Best Rap Album while his chart-topping “Way 2 Sexy” collaboration with Future and Young Thug is in the race for Best Rap Performance.
