Robert Durst spent decades under suspicion of a horrible crime. Durst was believed to be involved in the disappearance and murder of several of those around him. Robert was convicted of killing his best friend and given a life sentence. Durst has passed away in prison at the age of 78.
The news was broken by Durst’s attorney, Chip Lewis. Lewis said Robert Durst died of natural causes related to various health issues. Durst previously suffered a bout of COVID-19 while incarcerated.
In September, Robert was convicted of shooting Susan Berman from point-blank range in her Los Angeles home. On October 14, he was sentenced to life in prison. Two days after his sentencing, Durst was diagnosed and hospitalized with the pandemic virus.
Robert Durst is also suspected of having killed his wife. Kathie went missing in 1982 and has since been declared legally dead. A November indictment charged Durst in her death.
Prosecutors said Durst killed Berman to silence her after she helped him to murder his wife. It is believed she was about to speak up to investigators in the matter. Durst is also believed to have killed a man in Galveston, Texas while he was in hiding.
The case of Robert Durst came to public prominence when HBO released “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst.” The killer became a household name after several decades. The final episode showed him getting arrested for killing Susan Berman. With Robert Durst dead, we may never know the truth about several unsolved murders.
