Degrassi is a popular Canadian series that depicts the concerns and obstacles that adolescents encounter, such as sex, teen pregnancy, bullying, date rape, and many more issues. Two decades ago, CTV aired “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” Fans must be glad to know that the reboot of “Degrassi” is happening at HBO Max.
Degrassi, the beloved Canadian TV series that first launched Drake a star, will get its own reincarnation on HBO’s streaming service, HBO Max. Many shows and films from the early 1990s and early 2000s are getting a new lease on life.
Degrassi has a long history of revivals. The show first ran from 1979 to 1986 as The Kids Of Degrassi Street. Following that, the show reappeared as Degrassi Junior High from 1987 to 1989, before morphing into Degrassi High (1989-1991), and finally, Degrassi: The Next Generation, which lasted from 2001 to 2015.
According to TMZ, HBO has purchased the streaming rights to the original seasons and wants to produce a revival in 2023. Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen will produce it. The show will be apparently loved by many. Both Cohen and Azzopardi released a statement on the revival.
“What excites us maybe the most about reviving this beloved franchise is turning it into a truly serialized one-hour drama. We’re honored to be given the opportunity to lead this evolution and bring this iconic series back into people’s homes.”
Production is set to begin in Toronto this summer. Many more revelation is yet to be done. To know those revelations stay tuned to Thirsty.
