D.J. Williams starred as a linebacker for the Denver Broncos from 2004 through 2012. Williams played for some spectacular teams while he was in Denver. The LB recently explained one of the huge reasons for the team’s success.
Williams was interviewed by former NFL players on the “I Am Athlete” podcast recently. On the show, he talked about playing under former Bronco’s coach Josh McDaniels. Cheating had a lot to do with the team’s success under the Bill Belichick protégé.
“Josh would lay out keys to victory on how we win the game. Every time we did exactly what he said, we won.
We did that for six weeks. We get to San Francisco and we end up losing. We was supposed to beat San Francisco.
Our film guy got caught because we had to share a stadium [in London]. Our film guy got caught filming their practice.”
McDaniels was fined over the incident. The Broncos got off to a poor start the next season and fired the coach. It’s not surprising to hear that a branch on the Belichick coaching tree cheated in the exact same way as his mentor. There is probably plenty more cheating going on that fans just don’t know about yet. Meanwhile, Bill Belichick is preparing his Patriots for another playoff game.
