Mia Jaye had no idea what she was in for when she became a widow with small children to care for, but she has been adjusting to her new life. After over a decade together, Young Dolph and Mia Jaye were apparently preparing their official wedding ceremony, but people closest to Dolph reportedly respected Mia as the rapper’s wife.
Mia sat down with ABC News Live for the first time since Dolph’s untimely death, and on the heels of news that all suspects in Dolph’s murder case have been arrested. She discussed her loss, grief, rebuilding, parenthood, and her views about his killers.
She spoke about parenting their children and how the Black community can break the cycle of violence by addressing mental health and healing. It has been extremely difficult, just having to pick up the pieces and to find the strength for her children. Adolph and Mia felt they had a duty to protect and raise their children together. Now that he’s no longer here, it’s just very tough for her to stay strong.
Mental health in the Black community is something that we must address. So many people are walking around traumatized, they have bottled up anger, they have bottled up emotion … they make rash decisions. So finding ways to really, really heal people mentally, I think that’s a start.
Mia did say that the “outpouring of support” she has gotten has made her feel “uplifted.” Right now, she’s turning this agony into purpose. As a result, she’s grateful to the community for starting the dialogue about what we can do to help Black males live longer lives in America. Watch Mia Jaye’s interview below.
