Kendrick Lamar has had an incredible career in the rap game. Lamar broke out in 2012 and has become one of the most influential rappers out there. Kendrick has his eyes on a totally new project that doesn’t have anything to do with hip-hop.
Kendrick Lamar is teaming up with a couple of comedy’s heavy hitters for his upcoming live-action comedy film. The L.A. wrapper is joining forces with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker for the new flick. Lamar is acting as producer on the project.
Consequence Film reported that the movie is set to be written by Veron Chatman of Wonder Showzen fame. The story will be about a young black man playing a slave re-enactor finds out that his white girlfriend’s family once owned his. The South Park guys seem like the perfect duo take a comedic approach to such sensitive material.
Kendrick Lamar launched his production group pgLang with Dave Free in 2020. Lamar also recently announced that his nex album would be his last under current label Top Dawg Entertainment. pgLang could be getting into the record business.
The untitled film will be the first non-South Park film since Team America: World Police in 2004. Stone and Parker recently signed a deal with Viacom to produce six more seaason of South Park to go along with 14 movies. Two of the films were released as parodies of the COVID pandemic through Paramount+.
Kendrick Lamar teaming with Trey Parker and Matt Stone seems like an odd choice. The trio is, however, comprised of three of the most creative minds in their industry. We’ll have to see what develops of this project that features several huge names.
