The Los Angeles Lakers continue their season mired in mediocrity, injury, and dysfunction with a long road trip facing the team at the end of January. LeBron James and his teammates will venture east to take on the Magic, Heat, Nets, 76ers, Hornets, and Hawks before finally returning to Crypto.com arena on February 2nd. The team could be getting back one of their key pieces just in time.

LeBron James has questioned the team’s chemistry throughout the season. It’s hard to develop cohesion when constant injuries have ravaged the roster. That goes without mentioning games lost to COVID protocol.

Anthony Davis has been sidelined with an MCL sprain since December 17th. Davis is the Laker’s best offensive post player as well as one of the better defenders in the NBA. Dave McMenamin of ESPN recently reported that the team could have Davis back in time for the road trip.

“Anthony Davis participated in an individual on-court workout on Friday, four weeks to the day since spraining the MCL in his left knee. There is optimism within the Los Angeles Lakers organization that the star big man could return to game action sometime during L.A.’s long road trip at the end of the month, sources told ESPN.”

The 21-21 Lakers have been looking for a spark all season. Davis’ return is the next great hope. LeBron James isn’t looking to scrap for a playoff spot all season. The team wants to start winning now.

The upcoming east coast trip could be just what the doctor ordered for the Lakers. They could get back Anthony Davis. The trip might help with that team chemistry problem. We’ll know a lot more about the Lakers state as a team when they return in February.
