R. Kelly’s attorneys Steve Greenberg and Michael Leonard reportedly want to get away from the artist’s Chicago federal case. Reports of the two seeking out of the case took over social media.
Greenberg confirmed the reports on Friday, but did not comment on the situation. The two attorneys wanted out of Kelly’s legal counsel last year as well. Greenberg revealed that CNN that Kelly remained “insistent that we work with people who we felt would be rendering ineffective assistance as counsel.”
Kelly is facing charges by federal prosecutors with videotaping himself while having intercourse with underage women. He was also charged with paying the women to not reveal any information and intimidation of witnesses.
The artist is already caught up in another case, where he awaits charges in May. Kelly was convicted in the case involving separate sex crimes and racketeering charges. While he had 14 charges against him, the prosecutors had to prove only two.
Kelly is facing life in prison for the older case, for which he will undergo sentencing in May. His federal trial will start in August, and he has the task of getting more attorneys aboard his team.
