Simon Cowell is infamous for his reactions to the auditions on Britain’s Got Talent. He however might just have made a foot out of himself on the latest edition of the show when he failed to recognize the flag of England.
Cowell was shamed when a five year old named Charles was showcasing his knowledge of national banners. The multi-millionaire, who has lived almost entirely in the US for two years, was challenged to a contest with the kid and shown a St George’s Cross. To everyone’s surprise Simon replied: “Oh, I know that — it’s Switzerland.”
While David was left dumbfounded, The London Palladium audience were balling their lungs out in laughter. The Cross of Saint George, England’s emblem for more than 800 years, is a red cross on white, whereas Switzerland’s flag is a white cross on red. This might have been the stupidest thing Simon has ever said on any Got Talent’s stage and we are here for it.
Simon, who recently got engaged to Lauren Silverman, came off his electric motorcycle in May 2020 while testing it in his home of Malibu, California. He received months of treatment for a spinal injury but has now recovered. Simon returned to the judging panel on Sunday for the first round of auditions for the new series this year of BGT.
On Sunday, Ant and Dec welcomed back a live audience for the first time in two years after Britain’s Got Talent was cancelled due to Covid. Dec joked by saying how he wanted to cry as he kicked off the 2022 series of the ITV talent show. ITV bosses made the decision to cancel the show last year due to the difficulties surrounding auditioning during to the pandemic.
Simon has been recovering from a bike accident in Malibu recently and funnily enough we consider that might be the reason he has forgotten how England’s flag looks like. England’s flag is one of the most easy to remember and simple flag in the whole world and Simon did his best to embarrass himself by getting that wrong.
