Sofia Vergara is now going to portray the Cocaine Godmother, Griselda Blanco. In Netflix’s first-look shot for upcoming miniseries Griselda, the Modern Family star reveals her appearance as Colombian drug leader Griselda Blanco, a.k.a. La Madrina, a.k.a. the Black Widow, which she also executive produces alongside the creative team behind Narcos.
Griselda will follow the lady who became one of the world’s wealthiest drug traffickers, notorious for her vicious and violent ways of doing business, over the course of six 50-minute episodes.
Alberto Guerra (Narcos: Mexico) will play Dario, Vanessa Ferlito (NCIS: New Orleans) will play Isabel, Alberto Ammann (Narcos) will play Alberto Bravo, Christian Tappan (The Great Heist) will play Arturo, Diego Trujillo (Metastasis) will play German Panesso, Paulina Davila (Luis Miguel) will play Carmen, Gabriel Sloyer (Narcos) will play Diaz, Juliana.
Blanco was previously portrayed by Catherine Zeta-Jones in Lifetime’s Cocaine Godmother: The Griselda Blanco Story, and Jennifer Lopez has been tied to an HBO dramatization. Before it was brought to Netflix, Vergara had been developing Griselda with executive producer Luis Balaguer at Latin World Entertainment for the past eight years.
All six episodes are directed by EP Andrés Baiz, with co-showrunners Ingrid Escajeda and Doug Miro. Miro, Baiz, Eric Newman, and Carlo Bernard, all of whom worked on Narcos, have also released EPs. Stay tuned for more news on the series.
