Russell Westbrook built a reputation as one of the most polarizing players in all of basketball. While he was struggling with poor shot selection during his past few games, he also isn’t panicking at all. Westbrook is surprisingly energetic and it definitely has something to do with his move to LA.

Against the Pacers, Russ was benched late in the game. During his prime, Russell Westbrook was one of the best point guards in the NBA. Unfortunately, he has deteriorated significantly this season, and while there have been some flashes of brilliance, he hasn’t been able to demonstrate the abilities that he previously possessed.

In fact, the Lakers were so dissatisfied with his performance that he was benched during the team’s loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. Fans were taken aback by Westbrook’s benching, considering he is widely regarded as a superstar.

It was also startling for Westbrook, who had to cope with the ego-shattering humiliation that comes with being told you’re not good enough to be on the court during important moments. Westbrook recently addressed his benching, stating that it did not feel good, despite his desire to do what is best for the team.

Surprised, yes. I was disappointed I didn’t go back in, but I’m more disappointed that we lost the damn game. I want to be able to be on the floor to help my teammates and be able to help our team win in games like that — but that was a decision that was made.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Westbrook this season as he tries to enhance his game. Hopefully, for the sake of the Lakers, he can revert to his former self.
