Royce da 5’9 understands that a new generation of rappers might not be into what came before them. It’s a matter of personal taste and that’s fine with Royce. The rapper has recently been a subject of debate in the online Hip-hop community.
Rap fans debated whether Black Thought or Royce Da 5’9 had nicer bars on Twitter and the latter refused to get any smoke from it. Royce responded on Twitter, re-sharing a now-deleted Instagram post that asked who was better with the bars.
Please don’t do this.
While Royce has expressed his displeasure with Black Thought, the former Slaughterhouse MC did take issue with Lil Xan towards the end of 2021, dubbing him Hip Hop’s first “Karen,” a word that refers to white women who misuse their privilege in a demanding manner.
His retaliation came when Lil Xan accused his ex-manager Stat Quo of supplying him with prescription medications while he was battling his addiction. Royce considered the namedrop to be dishonorable regardless of the circumstances. Royce’s remarks on Lil Xan, however, prompted others to criticize the 25-year-old’s activities.
The 44-year-old opened up about his own personal troubles with narcotics in a 2021 interview with HipHopDX, admitting he was addicted to booze after taking his first sip with Dr. Dre. In September 2021, he laid the bottle down and celebrated 9 years of sobriety, or 3287 days, as he wrote.
