The American teen drama Euphoria has become a cultural phenomenon as well as a ratings success. Season 2 of HBO’s remake of an Israeli miniseries created by Sam Levinson premiered on January 9. As the show’s popularity grew, HBO’s Drake-produced “Euphoria” attracted over 3.5 million viewers.
According to Deadline, the most recent season of Euphoria drew 3.6 million viewers across all HBO platforms, a 41% increase over the previous week. That total for Sunday night’s episode appears to be an all-time high for the series.
Euphoria’s executive producers include hip hop megastar Aubrey Drake Graham and his DreamCrew production company partner Adel “Future” Nur. Zendaya, the multi-talented entertainer, is also an executive producer. In addition, 37-year-old filmmaker/actor Sam Levinson is listed as an executive producer, writer, and director on Euphoria.
Zendaya also plays Rue Bennett, a teen drug addict. In addition, the cast includes Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Dominic Fike, Storm Reid, and Austin Abrams.
Euphoria has received nine Primetime Emmy Award nominations since its debut in June 2019. At the 2020 Emmys, the show received awards for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup and Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics.
Zendaya received the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences the same year. The former Disney Channel star, who was 24 at the time, became the youngest woman to win the dramatic Lead Actress award.
