Kanye West’s Yeezy is one of the most highly sought-after brands when it comes to casual clothing. Now GAP X Yeezy has turned down the recent rumors of Kanye holding a fashion show for homeless people.
David Sebastian met with Kanye earlier this month for a discussion. As a conclusion of those talks, they decided to make a Yeezy x Skid Row Fashion Week clothing collaboration. The proceeds from the collaboration were supposed to go towards helping the homeless.
In a recent update to Complex, a Yeezy Gap representative denied the existence of any such event. Despite the event not taking place, Kanye has said in the past that he has a plan to address Los Angeles’s growing homelessness problem. Kanye has been seen proactively helping the homeless by arranging meetings with various personalities.
“Ye has a deep and solution-oriented commitment to addressing issues surrounding homelessness but this reported event is not on our schedule at this time nor are we aware of any product collaboration in development”
The Skid Row Foundation donates a portion of all clothing sales to helping those living in the downtown LA neighborhood. With this proposal, 100% of the sales would go towards the homeless and less fortunate. Their website states a “YZY x SKD” exclusive is set to premiere on February 22.
In addition to this, Kanye West’s collaboration with Gap is reportedly not rolling out as hoped. Gap was reportedly becoming frustrated with the rate at which the Yeezy Gap collection has been released. They have struggled to maintain the quality he wants while keeping products at a reasonable price point.
Amid all this back and forth the one major victim is the product itself. Different statements from different individuals are just making the brand seem less credible in the public eye. Ye will have to work hard to run this business properly.
