Nardo Wick is quickly establishing himself as one of rap’s most prominent performers. Nardo’s last few days have been difficult, and he continues to be chastised for his remarks. Nardo Wick’s mother informed him that his uncle was baking adult cookies in the kitchen.
Nardo attracted a lot of flak for what some saw as him praising his prior life of robbery and crime. The Jacksonville drill rapper attempted to stem the tide by explaining that he was speaking his mind and not trying to sway the opinions of his listeners.
On Wednesday, January 26, Nardo Wick spoke with DJ Akademiks for the latest episode of his Off the Record podcast. Nardo clarified that it was his lifestyle and circumstances that lead him to commit robberies on a regular basis. Nardo also claimed that he was exposed to drugs at an early age. He claimed that his family had a crack in the house when he was about five years old.
“I been around this sh*t my whole life since I can remember. I’m four or five and my uncles cooking crack and I’m asking what that is… A circle of crack and they like, ‘A grown-up cookie.’ It’s always been in me. My mom was really street and my daddy was serving.”
The issue began with Nardo Wick’s appearance with the Big Facts Podcast, in which he said that robbing someone for $5,000 rather than working for a $500 paycheck made more sense to him.
“I would just look at it like I would go rob a n-gga and get this much, why would I go to work. But you got to think, for real though, if I go do this to somebody and get $7,000 or $5,000, why I’m finna go to work for two weeks and make $500, hell nah.”
With his slow-burning song “Who Want Smoke??” and a remix including notable street rhymers Lil Durk, 21 Savage, and G Herbo, the 2022 HipHopDX Rising Star infiltrated rap’s mainstream. The ominous song has already been certified platinum and reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Nardo Wick shared his story of struggle. We’ll have to see if this response settles down some of the sentiment on his name. For further updates stay tuned to Thirsty.
