The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, will be the actor’s first venture as the Caped Crusader. The film is set to be a completely different take on Batman than shown in previous franchises. It seems Pattinson opened up about his role as well.
Pattinson’s reveal was met with a lot of mixed reactions from fans, as many doubted Pattinson could do the Caped Crusader justice. Pattinson also made it clear he was afraid of offending Batman fans.
Robert Pattinson previously stated that it’s crazy that he’s portraying the role of the Caped Crusader to begin with, and is certainly enjoying his role. Jeffrey Wright also has high hopes for Pattison’s role.
While speaking to Total Film, Robert Pattinson explained why he was interested in portraying Batman in the film. It was due to the fact that Batman is a freak.
“I was aiming for quite different stuff. Obviously it’s basically the jewel in the crown of the parts you can really get as an actor. But I’d never really thought I was anywhere close to doing it, and especially with the other parts I was attracted to at the time.
“I just kept obsessively checking up on it for the next year or so. Even my agents were like, ‘Oh, interesting. I thought you only wanted to play total freaks?’ And I was like, ‘He is a freak!’
He’s got this enormous trauma inside him, and he’s built this intricate, psychological mechanism to handle it, It’s like a really, really, really bad self-therapy, which has ended up with him being Batman at the end, as self-help.”
The film is set to release on March 4, 2022. We will have to see how the film turns out to be and if it will be able to live up to fan expectations, especially when it comes to Batman and Catwoman’s portrayals.
