Mauro Ranallo is set to host a new series being produced by CBS. For pro wrestling fans, Ranallo is of course no stranger. He spent many years at the analysts’ desk at many pro wrestling companies and/or promotions over the years. His career in that capacity dates back to All-Star Wrestling out of Vancouver, Canada (1986) and even Stampede Wrestling (1999-2000).
He went on to work the commentary desk in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and in WWE served as commentator on SmackDown and of course NXT during his time there. He now serves as announcer for Showtime Sports and Bellator MMA.
Ranallo is of course set to host the show that will feature 9 celebrities all vying for money for their respective charities. The task at hand for each celebrity: To survive 2 weeks in the temperamental Panama Jungle! CBS released this following statement to describe the show and it’s host:
“For two weeks, the celebrities will see if they have the grit to withstand torrential downpours, scorching heat and deadly wildlife while living in the exotic Panama jungle. There won’t be any judges or eliminations – instead, each celebrity must rely on their inner fortitude, physical ability, and courage, and have faith in their teammates to endure in the wild.
For each day they last, and every grueling adventure challenge they win with their team, the celebrities will raise more money for their charities. If a player reaches their breaking point, they can ring a bell to signal that they are ready to go home. At the end of the 14 days, the top two earners will go head to head in one final adventure, to see who can become the BEYOND THE EDGE champion and take home the most money for their charity.
BEYOND THE EDGE is hosted by SHOWTIME Sports announcer Mauro Ranallo, who made history as the first sports broadcaster ever to call every major combat sport on national television: boxing, kickboxing, MMA and professional wrestling. Ranallo currently announces SHOWTIME boxing and Bellator MMA matches.”
The show is set to drop on March 16th on CBS at 9 PM EST. Celebrities include: Lauren Alaina (the country star), Ray Lewis of the NFL, Craig Morgan (also a country music superstar), Metta World Peace formerly of the NBA, Paulina Porizkova (a supermodel), Mike Singletary also of the NFL, the actress Jodie Sweetin, and television personalities Colton Underwood and Eboni K. Williams.
