The Lakers are looking to do some buying before this NBA trade season is up. According to industry insider, Marc Stein, the team is interestingly enough, quite into purchasing players form the league’s worst possible team!
Stein, who previously wrote and covered the NBA and other sports for The New York Times and ESPN, now writes his column on Substack. The column naturally has a large readership, as Stein is and has pretty much always been ‘in the know’ when it comes to the NBA.
The topic of discourse now: The LA Lakers and their interest in some key players form what is considered one of the league’s worst teams…Orlando. The team has suffered quite the staggering string of losses so far this season. They do have a few victories, but as the expression goes…the proof is in the pudding.
Fans of the Lakers may have been hoping for a more impressive deal, as a piece at heavy.com suggests, but it looks like GM Rob Pelinka is looking to the Orlando Magic for something in the realm of a trading partner.
This may come as a massive shock to anyone and everyone paying close attention. Two names in particular are of course Terrence Ross and Gary Harris of the Magic. Here’s a little of what Marc Stein had to say on the issue:
“I passed along this update via Twitter on Sunday night purely because Orlando’s Terrence Ross and Gary Harris are names to monitor whenever they pop up these days. The Magic are widely expected to trade one or both before the Feb. 10 trade deadline depending on the level of draft capital they can get in return.
Some teams regard Ross as a natural target for the Lakers or the Jazz — both known to be seeking a defensive-minded wing player but possessing limited trade assets to make an impact trade in the next 17 days.”
The question that logically comes up at this point, and a glaring one at that, is will the Lakers even consider a potential deal of Talen Horton-Tucker for the previously mentioned Harris and Ross? Both players are doing okay as it stands – statistically speaking – but the glaring question is, are they all that?
Are they impressive enough to make the aforementioned deal, which means the Lakers potentially losing in the long run? Questions, questions, questions. Before the end of this particular NBA trade season, there will only be more of these questions, and as always, we’ll keep you posted, dear readers.
