Justin Watson, receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, seems to be headed for a new beginning, as he’s just signed a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. This starts what are considered to be quite a few changes moving forward for Tampa Bay, and many would say that losing Watson doesn’t necessarily set them off to a good start.
Watson only played a single game with the Buccaneers this season, so there isn’t really anything for fans to go on, but if they look deeply into his past, there was certainly room for growth for the native of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.
He played his college ball for Penn and has been with the Buccaneers since 2018, but last year landed on the practice roster. He is a former 3-time All-Ivy League, and it was in the Ivy League that he broke records – specifically “most receiving yards in conference play,” and in all of Ivy league history.
Not too shabby, some would most certainly say. Regardless, the deal is done, and as of the 2022/23 season, Watson will be receiving for the Kansas City Chiefs, as mentioned. It was Watson’s very own sports rep agency, JL Sports, that made the statement via Twitter. Greg Auman, who covers the Bucs for The Athletic, made this statement:
“Former Bucs receiver Justin Watson, who finished the season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad, is signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs after a visit today, per his agency @JLSports…23 catches and 2 TDs in four years in Tampa, 20 special-teams tackles as well.”
Speaking of the Buccaneers, they quite obviously now find themselves in need of a new QB since Tom Brady officially announced his retirement. Despite that though, and according to a report at Heavy.com, it looks like interest might now be directed at Chris Godwin, one of their current receivers who is teetering on the edge of being a free-agent. They are thinking of re-signing him.
