Freedom of speech is a fundamental right in several countries all over the world. However, that has been proven wrong in various instances as social media has shown that it dictates what can be said and what cannot. Joe Rogan has been controversial for a long time, but it seems he continues to draw the ire of fans yet again.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan has faced a lot of trials and tribulations throughout his career. He also has one of the most popular podcasts on Spotify. Joe Rogan took a week-long absence from his podcast at Spotify as he was blasted for accusations that he openly welcomed false public health information on his show.
Joe Rogan recently claimed that he never used the n-word to be racist after getting blasted by numerous fans and celebrities alike. Spotify CEO Daniel Ek took to Twitter and issued a statement on Joe Rogan using the n-word on numerous occasions. Ek condemned Rogan’s racist comments but stated that silencing Rogan is not the right way to handle the situation.
“While I strongly condemn what Joe has said and I agree with his decision to remove past episodes from our platform, I realize some will want more. I want to make one point very clear—I do not believe that silencing Joe is the answer. We should have clear lines around content and take action when they are crossed, but canceling voices is a slippery slope.”
Even The Rock reversed his support of Joe Rogan after learning about his use of the n-word. Spotify also removed over 70 episodes of Joe Rogan’s podcast so far. We will keep you updated on this ongoing story.
