Valeria Vasnetsova, an Olympian and Russian biathlete, recently and boldly complained that the food in Quarantine is horrendously dreadful. She went as far to claim that it brought her to tears and even caused her to be in physical pain after ingesting it.
This is of course yet another result of the growing issue with trying to put on athletic competitions of this size during the Cocvid-19 pandemic: Many athletes need to be quarantined for obvious reasons. Vasnetsova took to social media to lament.
“My stomach hurts. I’m very pale and I have huge black circles around my eyes. I want all this to end. I cry every day. I’m very tired…but today I ate all the fat they serve instead of meat because I was very hungry…my bones are already sticking out.”
For any athlete, nutrition is where it all starts. These athletes subject themselves to Exhaust Training – a phenomena where the athlete only starts to train after already having exhausted themselves with extensive cardiovascular training, so they need a good nutritional base, and above what an average person needs.
Essentially, what you see in the Rocky movie training montages doesn’t even scratch the surface although it does come close. Therefore, they need the proper sustenance to keep in the shape they have to be in to perform and say…win a gold medal or at least try to.
The food in the Instagram post – a photo Vasnetsova took of her tray – shows a mere bit of pasta, sauce on the side in another compartment, some questionable meat and something white and odd in the top corner as the post suggests.
According to a piece at The Associated Press, things have improved considerably since she garnered attention with her Instagram post, yet many are concerned that it had to come to that in the first place.
