Adele is an international phenomenon with a massive fanbase from all around the globe. The artist recently picked up three awards at the 2022 BRITs. During her accepting speech, the artist took the opportunity to throw massive shade at “Woke” ceremony.

The BRIT Awards was smacked into controversy last year after they announced they would be ditching the traditional male and female categories. For the first time in the Awards’ history they switched to gender-neutral categories. The move caused the event to be branded as “woke.”

The 33-year old artist won the award for Song Of The Year and the coveted Album Of The Year. Adele chose to address the “woke” element of the ceremony during her acceptance speech. Adele told the audience: ‘I understand this award has changed but I love being a female artist!’, while referring to the changes the awards board had made prior to the ceremony.

The singer tearfully dedicated her Album Of The Year award for ’30’ to her son Angelo, nine, and her ex Simon Konecki because the record is ‘really about them.” She also credited herself for ‘putting out something so personal’.

Adele beat hotly tipped contender Ed Sheeran in the Artist Of The Year category, which now includes all artists regardless of gender. Both of the artists released their long-awaited albums around the same time last year.
