YNW Melly may face death penalty for first-degree murder. But his lawyers are working hard to protect him from such a harsh punishment.
According to All Hip Hop, the 22-year-old rapper is currently awaiting trial for first-degree murder and could face death sentence if found guilty. His lawyers recently filed motions in a bid to remove the death penalty.
According to the defence, the prosecution “[hasn’t] met the criteria to justify the harsh punishment,” but they argue that Melly “committed murder in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner.”
“This aggravating factor is unconstitutionally vague and overbroad, is not capable of a constitutionally adequate narrowing construction and has been applied in an arbitrary and inconsistent manner.”
The Just A Matter of Slime rapper is facing two counts of first-degree murder for the alleged murder of his friends Christopher Thomas and Anthony Williams in 2018.
