Ben Simmons is finally a free man. The Philadelphia 76ers star has been sitting out all season due to mental health issues and a distrust of the team’s medical staff. The Sixers front office has been trying to find the right return package to pull the trigger on a move.
Just over an hour before today’s NBA trade deadline, Philadelphia finally found a taker. A deal with the Brooklyn Nets involving James Harden had been strongly rumored. That deal has been completed, according to the league’s trade tracker.
Philly will receive Paul Millsap and James Harden in the deal. Those are two key pieces that will replace a dormant player who was producing nothing for the team. The Nets got a bountiful return on the deal as well.
Brooklin will pick up Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two future first-round draft picks. The Nets will get the Sixers’ first choice in the 2022 and 2027 drafts. The 2022 first rounder is unprotected, but the 2027 pick isn’t.
Sixers fans can now breathe a sigh of relief. The team has had a stellar season thus far. The addition of two key pieces should have the restless Philly faithful feeling much better.
James Harden has recently become very frustrated with the Nets. The move to Philly puts him in a position to win a championship now. We’ll see if the move pays off for the 76ers and whether Ben Simmons is more content in Brooklyn.
