Former Major League Baseball standout Jeremy Giambi passed away recently at the age of 47. Giambi was a journeyman throughout his career, which saw him play for four teams throughout his seven-year life as a ballplayer at the highest level. Baseball fans were extremely saddened to hear the news.

TMZ has now reported the terrible circumstances of Giambi’s death. A family member found Jeremy on Wednesday morning and dialed 911 immediately. Despite their best efforts, there was nothing that could be done.

The Los Angeles medical examiner noted that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The news is especially jarring since several professional athletes have taken their own lives in the past couple of decades.

The Oakland Athletics issued a statement saying they were heartbroken to learn of Giambi’s death. His brother Jason also starred for the team. Jeremy Giambi’s death was like losing a family member to the A’s community.
