2016’s Suicide Squad film was written and directed by David Ayer. Despite being a Box Office success, grossing over $740 million at the worldwide box office. the film was panned by both fans and critics. The Suicide Squad, the franchise’s 2021 soft reboot has received a much different critical reception with a 90% fresh ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.
John Cena’s role as the Peacemaker certainly won him over with the fans. So much so, that he currently has his own Peacemaker spinoff series. In fact, the spinoff is DC’s best-reviewed project to date.
While speaking to Podly: The Peacemaker Podcast, John Cena talked about his role as Peacemaker. Cena admitted that he wasn’t sure he would even portray Peacemaker again after The Suicide Squad.
“Peacemaker came from pretty much oblivion. He’s not a well-known character. We saw a little bit of debut of a man who will keep peace at any cost in The Suicide Squad and I guess James Gunn thought that there was a story to be told around that ethos, and around the character. And, I thought The Suicide Squad would be the last time we saw Peacemaker, but here he is back in Peacemaker the series for HBO Max.”
The Peacemaker spinoff will be ending very soon, so it remains to be seen whether fans will get to see another season of the series or not.
