The COVID-19 pandemic changed the way that the world worked. Hollywood continued on, but they had to take precautions. Now those procedures will continue.
Initially set to expire on Sunday, the protocols were widely expected to be renewed. Hollywood has been very strict with its Covid restrictions so far.
The major Hollywood unions have announced on Wednesday that Covid-19 protocols on film and TV sets throughout the nations will remain as it is till April 30. The protocols include masking, distancing, and regular testing.
After March 15, the definition of “fully vaccinated” will include a requirement for a booster shot. However, the vaccine mandate is only for actors and others who actively work with them on set.
The protocols have been revised instead of simply being extended this time. The unions SAG-AFTRA, the Directors Guild of America, the Teamsters, and the Basic Crafts locals — have been negotiating with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to make an update to the protocols.
The new changes allow more freedom of tests, like use of antigen tests which are faster low-cost compared to the PCR tests. The studios have already upgraded from to N95, KN95, or KF94 mask. The COVID-19 sick leave bank has also been replenished up to 10 days for all cast and crew.
However, the restrictions in NY city have relaxed now. In L.A. as well, the indoor mask mandate was lifted on Wednesday.
