Johnny Depp Receives Gold Medal Of Merit By Controversial Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic

Johnny Depp has been involved in controversy for a long time after being accused of domestic violence by his ex-wife Amber Heard. It seems like he has found a positive restart to his career. Just recently, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic presented Johnny Depp with a Gold Medal of Merit during a ceremony commemorating Serbian Statehood Day in Belgrade, Serbia.

According to Balkan Insight, the 58-year-old actor was honored for his great qualities in public and cultural activities, particularly in the sphere of cinema art and the promotion of the Republic of Serbia in the globe. Depp appreciated the honor with his success speech.

I truly, sincerely thank you, President Vucic, and this medal of merit, if I am given the honor to walk away with this, I thank you for being kind enough to bestow it upon me. I like a re-beginning, and I would love for that beginning to start here.

The Kentucky-born actor, who has recently been involved in a variety of projects outside of the country, including the 2020 film Minimata and the animated series Puffins, described obtaining the medal as a really gratifying time in his life.

He lost a high-profile case in the High Court of London in July 2020, after The Sun newspaper labelled him a “wife beater” and he sued. Heard filed for divorce in 2016 and testified in London, alleging him of verbal and physical abuse.

Following the case, Depp lost his lucrative part in the Fantastic Beasts franchise and was eventually replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. Last year, though, Depp was granted permission to proceed with a $50 million defamation claim against Heard in the United States.

Depp said he was a victim of cancel culture in September, saying that no one is safe and encouraging those affected to stand up for themselves. Before accepting an honorary medal at the film festival in San Sebastian, Spain, Depp said the situation had become so out of hand.
