Jay-Z and many of his contemporaries have proposed a bill to protect the artistic and creative freedom of rappers with the intention of making it a state law. The bill named “Rap Music on Trial” states that lyrics shouldn’t be held against rappers to prove guilt during criminal trials.
Kanye West has been using his Instagram to take shots at Pete Davidson for the past couple of weeks. In the middle of it all, Kanye decided to praise the efforts of his friend Jay-Z to fight for artists for their artistic freedom
In an Instagram post that Kanye made a short while ago shows an article from Complex about Jay-Z and other rappers pushing for the said bill. A fight with the court to make sure lyrics cannot be used as evidence to persecute rappers and hip-hop artists. Kanye West wrote praising Jay-Z.
“I’m so happy that Jay Z is fighting for our artistic freedom,” “As artist we can say anything we want in songs. If our lyrics could be used against us then why not go after the distributors too Apple Spotify radio. But no It’s only the artist that get hit with this.”
Jay-Z’s fight makes sense as in the past Hip-Hop artists have had their lyrics used to prosecute them. Big Sean, Meek Mill, Fat Joe are some artists backing the bill, and now Kanye. This bill seeks rappers to get expressive freedom in their art without worrying about unfair persecution.
