Kelly Smiley was doing her duties as a photographer during the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory parade when disaster struck. Smiley took a nasty fall off the parade stage as Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly Stafford looked on. Matthew was heavily criticized for simply walking away from the incident.
Smiley later went on Twitter to say that she was doing just fine after the fall. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with a fractured spine. A GoFundMe was started to help offset the medical expenses and pay for Kelly’s broken equipment.
The Staffords eventually said they would pay for all of Kelly Smiley’s medical expenses. That has blown up in a big way. Several Twitter sleuths have presented alleged evidence of a treasure trove of racist and homophobic tweets from the photo editor that date back several years. In the aftermath, Kelly deleted her Twitter account.
The GoFundMe page is still up as of the morning of February 19, 2022. The most recent update came on February 18 with no acknowledgement of the alleged tweets. Over $48,000 has been raised on top of the Stafford’s offer of assistance with the hospital bill.
The tweets can’t be verified at this time since Kelly Smiley has deleted her account. That alone seems to be an admission of guilt. Matthew and Kelly Stafford have not responded.
The story of Kelly Smiley is all too common in the social media age. Words from years ago can come back to haunt almost anyone. Kelly Smiley not only suffered a fractured spine, but her career with the NFL could also be in jeopardy. You can check out some of the alleged screenshots below, but be advised many of them use very offensive language.
