M*A*S*H was one of America’s beloved TV shows. Sadly, Sally Kellerman, who was best known as US Army Maj. Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan in ‘MASH,’ has passed away. Kellerman’s age at the time of her passing was 84.
The Oscar-nominated actress died early Thursday morning. She was at an assisted care facility in Los Angeles. Sally Kellerman had been following a battle with dementia.
Sally was diagnosed with dementia around 2017, according to her son, Jack Krane. The actress wasn’t doing well the last couple years. As per TMZ, Sally Kellerman’s son says he last saw her Wednesday night. Given her condition, It became quite clear to him it would be her last time seeing her. He said his final goodbyes that day.
Sally Kellerman had an amazing career. From The Twilight Zone, an Oscar nomination for M*A*S*H (she was in many Altman films) to the remake of LOST HORIZON (she emerged unscathed). She also played Jodie Foster’s mom in FOXES.
Star Trek fans will remember her for playing Dr. Elizabeth Dehner on the third episode of “Star Trek,” when she sacrifices her life and has some last words for Captain Kirk. Sally was most known for the husky voice. She lent her voice to commercials and animation too. Kellerman did the voiceover work for Hidden Valley Ranch dressing and a few animated movies.
