The Weeknd dropped Dawn FM, his latest album earlier last month. The album featured Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, Jim Carrey, Swedish House Mafia, Max Martin, Calvin Harris, and Uncut Gems co-director Josh Safdie. Apparently, the Weeknd has more mysteries in his bag, but he decided this is not the right time for that.
The Weeknd has apologized for his ill-timed tweets, which coincided with Russia’s declaration of war on Ukraine early this morning. The Canadian icon realized the gravity of the situation and immediately took to Twitter to apologize for his untimely announcement.
Unfortunately I’m just now seeing what’s happening with the conflict and will pause on tomorrow’s announcement. I pray for everyone’s safety.
The Weeknd had been tweeting about a forthcoming mystery reveal all day yesterday, writing out the letters “T, O, M, O, R, R, R, O, W”, tweet by tweet. The announcement was set to drop today but it had to be postponed amidst The Russia-Ukraine tension.
He unknowingly posted a tweet that read, “LET’S GOOOOOOOO” in reference to his excitement for the mystery reveal. Sadly the timing of the tweet coincided with Putin’s declaration of the invasion.
On Twitter, users remarked on The Weeknd’s “terrible timing,” even sharing images of how they learned of the news.
