Russia began its invasion of Ukraine earlier this week with forces coming in from the north, east, and south. The attack is still ongoing, but there have been reports of explosions and airstrikes, with threats escalating against Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital and a metropolis of 2.8 million people. Regarding the miserable situation of Ukraine, Milla Jovovich took to Instagram to express her feelings.

Milla Jovovich is “heartbroken and dumbstruck” by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The actress, who was born in Ukraine, wrote a lengthy Instagram post on Friday about attempting to “process the events” in her homeland.

The star of “Resident Evil” further said that she has strong ties to both Russia and Ukraine. “My country and people being bombed. Friends and family in hiding,” she wrote.

“My blood and my roots come from both Russia and Ukraine. I am torn in two as I watch the horror unfolding, the country being destroyed, families being displaced, their whole life lying in charred fragments around them. I remember the war in my father’s homeland of former Yugoslavia and the stories my family tells of the trauma and terror they experienced. War. Always war,” she continued. “Leaders who cannot bring peace. The never-ending juggernaut of imperialism. And always, the people pay in bloodshed and tears.”

After sharing an impassioned post to her Instagram account, she directed her followers to a link in her bio with groups dedicated to assisting people still in the nation as Russia continues its assault. The links include the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund, the Ukrainian Everyone Can International Charitable Foundation, and a website dedicated to LGBTQ+ Ukrainian military personnel.

Jovovich was born in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, to a Russian mother and a Serbian father, and spent her early years in Moscow, where her mother was born. The family fled the Soviet Union when she was five years old, moving to London before eventually settling in Los Angeles. However, other celebrities, notably Ashton Kutcher, who is married to Ukrainian-born actress Mila Kunis, also have spoken out in support of Ukraine.
