Alec Baldwin’s “Rust” was one of those Hollywood projects that just seemed cursed from the outset. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed in a tragic on-set accident involving a live weapon behind handled by Baldwin. If that wasn’t bad enough, another crew member has been dealing with a dangerous spider bite that has altered his life.
Jason Miller has been recovering from a bite from the deadly brown recluse spider while tearing down the set. The resulting injuries were horrendous. Miller nearly had to have his arm amputated. The venom caused necrosis and agonizing pain.
Miller recently talked to TMZ about his recovery. Jason said he is making strides but still faces daily challenges due to the bite. Jason has shoulder pain when he lays down, causing him difficulty sleeping at night.
The pipe rigger and lamp operator is also experiencing range of motion issues. Miller is unable to raise his arm above his head or reach behind his back. Even scratching an itch has become a difficult task.
A GoFundMe for Jason Miller has raised $14,600 to help offset costs related to the spider bite. Jason used $3,000 of the proceeds to rent a new home. The rest has gone into savings as Miller is unsure if and when he can return to work.
Jason did receive worker’s comp payments since he was at work when the bite occurred. It sounds like he is on the slow road to recovery. The production of Rust has been suspended and may not ever resume. Jason Miller is hoping that his career doesn’t meet the same fate.
