Joe Rogan has been served fresh controversies every now and then for some time. His recent one originated after he used the n-word and did not apologize for it. Now actor Samuel L Jackson has weighed in on the podcaster’s use of the racial slur.

Earlier this month, Rogan came under fire after R&B artist India Arie posted a compilation video of Rogan saying the racial slur 24 times. Rogan responded with an Instagram video to state that the slur was said in a context missing in the video. People have not taken well to the idea of him explaining why he did it instead of just apologizing.

Samuel L Jackson was promoting his upcoming AppleTV series “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” on The Sunday Times and commented on the situation. Jackson was upset that he said the slur and masked it with the fact that it had a context. The Pulp Fiction star was accepting no apologies from Rogan since he thought it was deliberate and for entertainment.

“He is saying nobody understood the context when he said it. But he shouldn’t have said it. It’s not the context, dude it’s that he was comfortable doing it. Say that you’re sorry because you want to keep your money, but you were having fun and you say you did it because it was entertaining.”

Having appeared in six Quentin Tarantino films, Jackson himself is no stranger to strong language. He balks at the criticism Tarantino has received for peppering his scripts with the n-word, arguing that the context calls for it. The Marvel star added, “It needs to be an element of what the story is about. A story is context — but just to elicit a laugh? That’s wrong.”

The use of the n-word in any context by a white man would obviously be taken as an offense by the African-American community. However, putting words in the mouth of people from appropriate ethnicities in movies is quite different from Rogan’s blatant use of it as a laugh inducer.
