Russia has begun a deadly war on Ukraine, a 44 million-strong European democracy. The Russian military has begun targeting metropolitan centers. However, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have stepped up to assist Ukrainian refugees.
The pair launched the “Stand With Ukraine” GoFundMe campaign on Thursday, March 3, with a goal of raising $30 million for Flexport.org and Airbnb.org to assist refugees fleeing their homeland due to the conflict with Russia. Kunis and Kutcher have agreed to match donations up to $3 million in an effort to boost donations.
The actress of “Bad Moms” was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, which was part of the Soviet Union at the time. She immigrated to the United States with her family when she was seven years old. Kutcher addressed fans and followers who might give to the cause in a video that accompanied the fundraising drive.
“I have always considered myself an American, a proud American. I love everything that this country has done for myself and my family, but today I have never been more proud to be a Ukrainian. And I’ve never been more proud to be married to a Ukrainian,”
Mila continued her thoughts and began her remark on the internet-
“Ukrainians are proud and brave people who deserve our help in their time of need. This unjust attack on Ukraine and humanity at large is devastating and the Ukrainian people need our support.”
Flexport would carry humanitarian aid “directly to known NGOs (non-governmental organization) on the ground,” according to the Hollywood pair, while Airbnb will provide lodging and cost of living to those compassionate enough to take in refugees. “The people of Ukraine are strong and brave, but being strong and brave doesn’t mean you’re not worthy of support,” Kunis concluded. “We need to support the people of Ukraine. Please help us.”
