In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, celebrities, corporations, and institutions from around the globe have expressed their disapproval of it. Now during the Independent Spirit Awards show the hosts took shots at Russian President, Putin.
During the award ceremony the show’s hosts Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman took a short moment to address the ongoing situation. The two told Vladimir Putin to “f*ck off” while showing their support for Ukraine.
The hosts also wished those in Ukraine “best wishes.” The 2022 Spirit Awards took place in Santa Monica, California amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
“I think we speak for everyone here when we say that we are hoping for a quick, peaceful resolution,” Mullally said. “Specifically, f*ck off and go home Putin!”
“We hope Putin f*cks off and goes home and to that end let’s all join together with a Spirit Awards salute to Putin,” Offerman said while Mullay flashed middle fingers to the camera.
On a serious note one of the hosts requested everyone to donate whatever they can in support of those affected in Ukraine.
“Great organizations are raising money [for Ukraine]. Please give what you can to give to the victims of this senseless act of aggression.”
Ahead the the Spirit Awards show, Netflix announced it was suspending it’s service in Russia due to recent events. However, Netflix is just one of many to have pulled their operations from Russian territory. To name the few, TikTok, Disney and Meta have also joined the anti-Russia campaign.
