Camila Cabello Talks About Her Breakup With Shawn Mendes For The First Time

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes announced their breakup on social media in November, leaving their fans heartbroken. However, months after her split from Shawn, Camila revealed the true reason for the celebrity couple’s breakup.

Cabello recently told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that a ‘priority shift’ was one of the main reasons for their breakup. She revealed during the chat that the couple ended their relationship mutually due to a sudden shift in their priorities. According to her, the shift occurred on both sides. However, they are now learning how to be ‘healthy adults.’

She said:

“As I get older, the priorities shift. And I feel like it was that way for both of us. We both started so young, too. It’s like we’re really learning how to be healthy adults.”

“And same thing with those years that we were together,” she said, expanding on her relationship with Mendes. “My focus was just, how can I live a happy life and be in a healthy, happy relationship? I was doing therapy a lot. My focus really has shifted. And even now while I’m in promo mode, honestly, if I’m not having fun, what’s the f–king point? I think as I get older, yeah, the priorities shift. And I feel like that was that way for both of us. Because we both started so young too, we’re really learning how to be healthy adults. And that sometimes means not having your number one focus be your career. And that’s okay.”

Following her heartbreak, the 25-year-old shared some advice she received from her mother.

“My mom being like, ‘You’re devastated now, and you’re going to be devastated the next time that this happens to you. And you’re always like, ‘Oh my God, how am I going to… I’m never going to experience something like this again.’ And life proves you wrong every time. You just never know what’s around the corner. And my mom has literally always, multiple times, I’m like ‘This happened and then this happened.’ She’s like, ‘Asi es la vida,’ like, ‘That’s just the way life is.'”

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes released a joint statement on Instagram in November stating that they had mutually ended their relationship. However, the “Senorita” singers also stated that they will continue to be “best friends” because their love for each other is stronger than ever.
