The UFC has developed into a multibillion-dollar global phenomenon under Dana White’s leadership. Fans must have seen that Cain Velasquez has got involved in a murder investigation. And now it appears that Dana White, Khabib, and other MMA stars have sent letters to the judge in support of Cain Velasquez.
Cain Velasquez is gaining support from the combat sports community, with big figures like Dana White, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Henry Cejudo, Kamaru Usman, Rey Mysterio, and others urging the judge in the UFC legend’s case to release him.
According to TMZ Sports over 30 people, many of them celebrities, wrote letters to Judge Shelyna Brown pleading with her to let Velasquez post bail, allowing him to mount his case from his home rather than a jail cell.
Others who wrote to Judge Brown included Bellator CEO Scott Coker, Bellator heavyweight champ Ryan Bader, UFC challenger Kelvin Gastelum, UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev, UFC featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez, and former UFC flyweight champ Brandon Moreno.
Sadly for Velasquez, who was accused of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and other offenses, the judge did not appear to be influenced by the letters. Brown refused Cain bail, claiming that his claimed actions were “reckless” and that the “risk is too significant” to let him out of county jail.
But it’s the cause behind those allegedly “reckless” conduct that has prompted so many people to seek Cain’s release, from MMA stars to ordinary citizens. Velasquez will now be held in a detention cell at least till April 12, unless the prosecution changes its position.
Following Monday’s bail hearing, CV’s high-profile defense attorney Mark Geragos lambasted the court for releasing Goularte, who is suspected of assaulting a young family member of Cain’s, without consulting the Velasquez family. However, we all hope Cain will be released shortly. For further updates stay tuned to Thirsty.
