Francis Ngannou defeated Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 260 earlier in the year. After that, a lot of drama ensued as he never got to fight Jon Jones. It seems Ngannou is unhappy working in the UFC from the looks of it.
In the main event of UFC 270, Francis Ngannou defended his UFC Heavyweight Championship against Ciryl Gane. Ngannou employed a new strategy to his game as he used a lot of grappling in his five-round fight against Gane. The fight ended in a unanimous decision win for Ngannou via scores of 48-47, 48-47 49-46 in the pay-per-view headliner. After his win, Dana White didn’t put the belt on Ngannou.
Francis Ngannou then revealed that he did not feel like a free man whatsoever in the UFC. Ngannou even claimed that he gave up $7 million to get a better contract in the UFC.
Ngannou previously made it clear he wants to get into boxing to get better pay. While speaking with Shannon Sharpe, Kamaru Usman commented on Francis Ngannou and Dana White’s dispute and stated that he wants the two parties to compromise.
“Francis Ngannou, that’s my brother. I believe Francis is always going to be worth more than he’s getting. Absolutely. If he can go to boxing tomorrow and they pay him 50 million, I think he’s worth more than that, right, you know? So that’s something that they need to sit down with the company.
Because I you know, there’s plenty and plenty of athletes that were unhappy, that were eventually sat down and something was done, you know? That’s business, right? No one side is always gonna get more than that, you know?.. And I think they need to come to a compromise, you know, can he get more? Absolutely.
Francis Ngannou also doesn’t know what he’s doing wrong to not get a huge payday like Logan Paul. Francis Ngannou previously called out Tyson Fury for a boxing match as well. The CEO of Bellator also recently made it clear he wants to sign Francis Ngannou. We will have to wait and see if Francis Ngannou will truly leave the UFC to join Bellator or not.
