Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was recently detained by the Atlanta Police after Bank staff falsely assumed he was a robber when he entered the bank. Freshly obtained Bodycam shows what exactly went down in the Bank as the director was being handcuffed.
Coogler entered Bank of America branch to attempt withdraw of $12000 from his account. He then passed a note to the teller which read, “I’d like be discreet,” this lead teller become suspicious and swiftly call 911.
In the bodycam clip one of the two officers can be seen upholstering his gun, right before putting Coogler in handcuffs, “Whoa whoa, what’s going on?” Coogler asked. Officers also detained nurse and a driver who were accompanying him as they waited outside for him.
In about 15 minutes the officers sorted the situation out and finally freed them from the handcuffs. Coogler then opened up to the officers and explained he was just pulling out money to pay a household employee who prefers to be paid in cash.
The incident seemed to have shaken Coogler as seen in the video below but he reacted to the situation in a very calm manner without any defying the officers. This doesn’t appear to be the case of racial profiling but just a misunderstanding among staff member. However, we’ll see if Black Panther director decides to take legal action against the situation.
